Jon “Big Country” Gifford

Jon “Big Country” Gifford came to us in the middle of the 2007 season. His attitude and work ethic is one of the highest in the drum corps community. Not to mention and very talented trumpet player. Returning as the “basics guru” on our visual staff, he brings many ideas and concepts to the table.

Jon is married and resides in Greenville, NC. Currently he is working towards a degree in music education at East Carolina University. Jon has been a part of many ensembles. He has performed with the ECU concert band, wind ensemble, marching band, pep band, and numerous brass quintets. Currently he is the lead trumpet player in ECU’s distinguished jazz band, the ECU Jazz Band A. Jon also plays an active role in Kappa Kappa Psi – National Honorary Fraternity for College Band Members.

Jon’s teaching and drum corps experience fills his resume up. He has worked with several high schools in the North Carolina area including Southern Nash High School (USSAB), Clayton High School (BOA), Apex High School, and Rocky Mount High School. His drum corps experience ranges from being of a member of the 1999 and 2000 Tarheel Sun Drum and Bugle Corps, 2004 Div 2 2nd place East Coast Jazz Drum and Bugle Corps and the Carolina Gold 2002-2007 All-age Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also a staff member with Carolina Gold from 2003-2007.

Jon is truly excited for the upcoming season and being able to return the Crusaders family.
